House Rules

Read from February 06 to 07, 2013

Loved it, fast paced, Merit and Ethan and lots of drama..yep Chicagoland Vampires is still on a upward spiral in it's 7th outing! Must read!

Description:

In a city full of vampires, trouble never sleeps.

At the tender age of 27, Merit became a sword-wielding vampire. Since then, she’s become the protector of her House, watched Chicago nearly burn to the ground, and seen her Master fall and rise. Now she’ll see her mettle—and her metal —tested like never before.

It started with two . . . Two rogues vanishing without a trace. Someone is targeting Chicago’s vampires, and anyone could be next. With their house in peril, Merit and her Master, the centuries old Ethan Sullivan, must race to stop the disappearances. But as they untangle a web of secret alliances and ancient evils, they realize their foe is more familiar, and more powerful, than they could have ever imagined.

My Thoughts:

Ok gotta say it...I loved it!!! Merit gets into more trouble than a puppy. This is the 7th book in a series that hasn't let me down yet. The characters get better and better there is still the connection with them and you feel for them every step of the way. Ethan is still your tightass Master Vamp and we love him for it. The secondary characters both old and new are fabulous backup to the H/H and well the writing is wonderful..the plot keeps moving to the point where I stayed up til 3am reading and got up at 7am to finish the book. This is still one of my favorite series with some of my most beloved characters. This book did feel like it was the conclusion of a chapter in the lives of our heroes and that the next book will take us on a new path and I for one can't wait!!!

Big Shiny 4.5 stars from me and I can't believe I have to wait so long for the next book!!!! Its gonna kill me!

  1. I just finished House Rules and...Yes! I loved it! As always, I find it hard to add to your review as you pretty much see as I do. This series was a back to back, "Dammit! I'm finishing a whole series and not wandering off this time," personal commitment. So I've been immersed in Merit and Ethan and the gang for a while now. I love a series that's one long evolving story and HR left me satisfied, knowing that the story will continue. I sorta can wait for more:)

With some series, especially read back to back, it's a hard look into the mind of a bored writer. Not so with Ms. Neill. Her development of the romance between Merit and Ethan was sublime. And there are hardly any sex scenes! I was surprised this didn't bother me. But as I finished HR and saw how she handled the make or break situation with Ethan and Merit, I felt, this is honest and real, and realized that's what I look for in a truly satisfying read.

I must also comment on the secondary characters' development. In each book we learn a bit more, get to know and like/dislike each one a bit more. Reminds me of how a new friendship evolves over time. Perhaps that's the best complement I can pay. Great review, T! I'm so happy you love this series, too! xxxxx
