Those Familiar Places

Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario
Grand Bend, Ontario
I LOVE Paranormal Romance, Contemporary Romance, Erotic Romance, I could go on but one thing all of these genre's have in common is that I rarely see them take place in locations in which I am familiar.  Usually books take place in various U.S. states or more exotic locals (exotic to me anyway).  Recently I have read 2 books that have mentioned the most major city near me, Toronto.  The Selkie by Rosanna leo has her female protagonist start her journey in Toronto, nice mention.  However, The Lady is a Vamp by Lynsay Sands has her hero and heroine travelling throughout Southwestern Ontario and it was a blast seeing the city I was raised in mentioned 'Kitchener/Waterloo' a city known for it's Octoberfest celebrations and the home of the University of Waterloo. Sands then goes on to mention London, Ontario and then to the Ontario Riviera (LOL) Ipperwash, Ontario heck she even mentions Grand Bend, a town I spent many summers of my misspent youth getting into trouble and having the time of my life..  Yes it is nice to see familiar places it brings the story alive and gives you a personal connection.  I know Canadian writers of the genres I read are become more well known and popular, I expect I will be seeing more of my beautiful province depicted in favorite novels but to me Lady is a Vamp and Lynsay Sands will always have a special place in my heart.
